Gingivitis

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums, specifically the gingiva—the soft tissue surrounding the base of the teeth. It's a common oral health issue and often an early stage of periodontal disease.

Causes of gingivitis?

The primary cause of gingivitis is the accumulation of plaque on the teeth. Diets, especially those high in sugars or carbohydrates, can contribute to plaque formation and worsen gingivitis.

Clinical signs of gingivitis?

Gums appear red or swollen, especially along the gum line. Your dog's gums may bleed, particularly when chewing or when you touch them. Foul-smelling breath, often due to bacterial buildup and pain and discomfort are also common signs.

Prevention of gingivitis?

Providing a balanced species-appropriate diet of fresh food for your dog can contribute to overall oral health and prevent gingivitis.
