apoquel

Apoquel is a drug used to treat and control itching and inflammation in dogs. Generally Apoquel is prescribed by a Veterinarian when the Vet believes the dog has allergies and doesn't try to rule out food first. Because of this, some dogs can be on Apoquel their entire lives because the root cause is not being fixed, rather just masked by the Apoquel.

What it is?

Apoquel is used to relieve itching and inflammation caused by a variety of diagnoses, most of the time when other causes of the itching and inflammation is not ruled out. Some of the most common uses for Apoquel is food allergies, flea allergies, environmental allergies and dermatitis.

What it is

How it applies?

Apoquel affects kinases(essential signaling compounds that the body’s cells use to communicate with each other) which can cause intolerable low white and low red cell count, stunted growth and can increase the dog’s risk of cancer. Apoquel quite literally numbs the nerves of animals and therefore "helps" the itching and inflammation but does not treat the root cause. There are natural alternatives to using Apoquel - the most important one is to ensure your pet is fed a fresh diet and is also getting plenty of omegas. Starting with fresh raw food and also doing a protein elimination diet is a much more natural and effective way to go about itching and inflammation. Feeding probiotics will help cleanse and rebalance the gut which will help with the bacteria that is being killed by Apoquel.
