ABOUT

We’re tired of kibble companies telling us they are the only ones that know how to feed your dog. The science behind fresh food is out there, but it’s scattered, and difficult to understand with little guidance on how to take action to feed real food. So we hired a team of researchers to take a deep dive into complex nutritional topics, citing numerous studies and academic research to create easy-to-digest articles to help everyday dog parents take their dog’s wellness to the next level.

We have spent tens of thousands of hours unlearning everything we know about kibble and obsessively researching the benefits of real fresh food for our dogs. Our team has a vast array of academic and personal experience, with contributors who have worked in veterinary clinics, animal sciences and research, legal research, technology, and more.

Our Institute Founder, Ruby Balaram, has been teaching dog owners about fresh food for nearly a decade. Ruby is also the Founder & CEO of Real Dog Box, a service started in 2015 that helps dog owners add variety of real food into their bowls. Her team has helped thousands of dogs over the last 8 years healing dogs with food and transitioning dogs to a species-appropriate diet.

All of our researchers, writers and consultants have successfully passed numerous nutrition courses, have had extensive in-house training and real-life coaching and consulting sessions with hundreds of dog owners. Our lead educator, Kay Stewart, is a Registered Veterinary Technician and a Certified Professional Canine Nutritionist with 40 years of experience in the veterinary field. She has been endorsed by several veterinarians and canine nutritionists specifically to teach courses in nutrition.

No single study points out all of the benefits of fresh real food. But thousands of articles are available that expand upon how the individual components of a raw diet impact the overall health of dogs. We have culminated all the information into practical steps for you to take toward feeding your dog a nutritionally balanced diet.

At every opportunity, we’ve taken our research and shared it with you. Over the years, this catapulted the #feedreal movement, we shared and celebrated each of your individual journeys on fresh real dog food, which eventually led to the creation of Feed Real Insitute. Here you can find deep-researched nutritional content and dog-feeding tools to help dog owners make their bowls better.
